Bilingualism

The teaching of Languages nowadays is in high demand, due to open borders, particularly in Europe and the free circulation of people. In fact, we are the first and only school in Spain including Mandarin Chinese in the compulsory curriculum, from 5 years old to 4th ESO.

INTERNATIONAL EXAMS

Recently, the University of Cambridge has started its international examinations for school levels (Young Learners), and MIT School has been chosen to collaborate as the examining Centre in Southern Spain, being the first in doing it with the ‘Computer based’ tests. The same goes for the Confucius Institute, which has chosen our Center as the only school in Europe to be an official certification centre for the YCT and HSK exams. In the same vein, our students have the opportunity to obtain international certifications by the Alliance Française and the Deutsche Einsatz Amt.

At MIT School, we give priority to the teaching of English, establishing more than half of the curriculum in English in a gradual and prudent manner so it does not pose an obstacle for the new pupils who do not have a high English level. And we complement this with the teaching of Mandarin (from 7 yrs old), French (from 9 yrs old) and German (from 12 yrs old), all of them taught by native teachers. The need of our students to face the challenge of their work and personal future, and the importance of learning about other cultures and languages to their development as individuals, support this basic pillar of our project.

NATIVE TEACHERS

In order to get a perfect Bilingallism we have to have native teachers, that is obvious. At MIT we have nine fantastic native teachers and eleven perfectly bilingual. Besides, we have five teachers specialized in Foreign Languages, and two native Chinese teachers, apart from the native Languages Assistants who come to MIT School from all over the world every course. In addition, our General Manager, Mr. Díaz, has a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies and has prepared the students’ parents for the official Cambridge exams during the mornings and afternoons in our own language school. Besides, many of the Spanish teachers have the C2 (Proficiency), C1 (Advanced) or B2 (First). And everyone is still preparing to improve their level by taking new exams annually.

From Reception, pupils are taught to recognise and develop grammatical structures through conversation practise. It is easier to understand when we see what is happening, and because of this, videos and specific iPad aps are used to improve understanding. The process is that the student is first introduced to a given context, and then he will perceive visually what happens, he will listen and recognize the sound of what is said, he will link the visual signs with the hearing and finally he will begin to repeat them.
